Ash Wednesday

This years Ash Wednesday service will be at the Kensington Congregational Church. We realize that this is also Valentine's Day, so the service will be held from 4:00-5:00pm allowing time to make those dinner reservations. There is a saying that people of faith should walk around with a piece of paper in both pockets. On one should be written:"You are a child of the King." On the other:"You are the dust of the earth." As humankind, we hold the tension between both of these. Lent is a time to be mindful of the latter; to humbly look around, to attain a lowly position. One of the ways we do this is by marking ourselves with ashes. In early days, people would roll in ashes and dress in scratchy sack cloth. So, we have it easier, by far...but the task of humility is never undemanding.
